The National Trauma Institute is governed by a 20-member Board of Directors comprising leaders in the trauma field and representatives of the major national trauma organizations.

The Board's Science Committee is responsible for the development of the national research agenda, issuance and communication of Requests for Proposals to a national audience, consideration of proposals, and recommendation of contracts and funds to be awarded. This committee will create Study Sections to provide expertise in the appropriate clinical research areas consistent with the national research agenda.
